The Discovery Initiative is proud to present new interdisciplinary spaces at Berkeley for tiered, mentored research, industry engagement and entrepreneurship.
Piloted in spring 2025 with the Kavli Energy NanoScience Institute (Kavli ENSI), the Discovery Hubs are now expanding through partnerships both within and beyond campus.
These Hubs follow flexible, real-world-inspired models, with projects led by graduate students, undergraduates or professional researchers. In graduate-led projects, students apply for funding, manage teams and mentor undergraduate researchers.
Each May, undergraduate participants and their mentors present their work at the Discovery Research Symposium, a celebration of collaborative achievement.
Students in the Hub are recognized as Discovery Scholars (undergraduates) or Discovery Fellows (graduate students). Undergraduate students may also receive academic credit or, in some cases, stipends.
