Where to Develop Programming & Coding Skills:

  • D-LAB: Get training and receive one-on-one consulting for all things relating to research development, research design and data acquisition.
  • CalNerds: Sign-up for intro to Python bootcamps focused on data types, structures, loops, libraries and functions. 
  • Data Science Discovery Program: Join a team of data science students to work on real-world projects with mentorship support. Or look for other data science projects on the Discovery Opportunities Database.  
  • Data Scholars: Scholars enrolled in Data 8 can participate in a small cohort experience to receive weekly workshops, dedicated office hours and advising.
  • Data Science Workshops: Access an archive of recorded data science workshops from the College of Computing, Data Science and Society.

  • Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS): Explore the training options offered by BIDS to augment degree programs on computational research or machine learning.

Where to Develop Engineering Skills:

  • Student Machine Shop: Services include: Laser Cutting, 3D Printing, CNC Machining (Lathe and Mill), Water Jet Cutting, 3D, Scanning, Welding (MIG and TIG), Tube Bending, Compression and Tension testing, Heat Treating, and Hardness Testing.
  • Cory Hall Machine Shop: Machines include precision conventional machines, CNC lathe and 5-Axis CNC mill, with the ability to produce very precise parts with tolerances to 0.001.
  • R&D Machine Shop: Services provided include design, construction and maintenance of prototype research equipment.
