Aileen Liu is the Executive Director of Berkeley Discovery and Berkeley Connect in the Division of Undergraduate Education. Previously, she was Director of Curricular Engagement Initiatives in the College of Letters & Science at UC Berkeley. She began her professional career as a high school English teacher in Atlanta Public Schools through Teach For America, an experience that sparked her lifelong commitment to expanding opportunity and access to a transformative education.
Her favorite places on campus are Morrison Library, the Dwinelle benches, and the top of the Campanile (she learned to play the bells through the Carillon DeCal as a grad student). Outside of work, she enjoys reading and discussing recent fiction and non-fiction, strolling Solano, gathering friends for bake-offs and craft nights, and knitting sweaters. She also enjoys talking with current and recent Ph.D. students about career exploration. She earned her Ph.D. in English with a certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from UC Berkeley, and her B.A. in English from Duke University.
