The Discovery Workshop Series assists students with every step of their discovery journey - from early inspiration to project conceptualization, from navigating campus opportunities to showcasing accomplishments. Students can register for upcoming workshops via our calendar, and we also encourage faculty and staff to invite us to present workshops to your programs and courses.
Walking Tour of Experiential Learning Opportunities at UC Berkeley
At UC Berkeley, undergraduates thrive when they develop their passions into hands-on “Discovery projects'' as researchers, artists, community leaders, entrepreneurs, inventors and more. In this 90 minute walking tour, you will engage in a conversation on how you can take advantage of the wide range of opportunities on campus for immersive, experiential learning.
Workshop #1 - Making the Most of Your Undergraduate Years: Forging Your Own Discovery Project Path at UC Berkeley
At UC Berkeley, undergraduates thrive when they develop their passions into hands-on “discovery projects” as researchers, artists, community leaders, entrepreneurs, inventors and more. In this introductory workshop, you will learn how students have found purpose and belonging through undergraduate discovery projects at UC Berkeley. We will learn from other students' discovery journeys on how they built their campus connections and defined their path at Cal. You will begin to reflect on shaping your own discovery journey at Cal, and you will find out how the Discovery Hub workshop series can help you accomplish your goals.
Workshop #2 - Understanding Your University: How Undergraduates Build Social Capital Through Discovery Projects
What does student success look like at a world class public university? In workshop #2, we will show you how students are creating a new, emerging paradigm for undergraduate education through hands-on projects that take advantage of the unique networks and resources available at UC Berkeley. We will help you develop strategies for social capital: building your community of faculty and staff mentors, peer collaborators, and alumni support through designing projects that will become the central story about what you DID at Berkeley.
Workshop #3 - Defining Your Purpose: Pathways to Developing Your Discovery Project
UC Berkeley has world class resources for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom through hands-on immersive projects. Students develop their projects within the "co-curricular landscape" of campus, organized around a number of related ecosystems of student resources including undergraduate research, arts, entrepreneurship, and social justice activism. In workshop #3 you will learn about how to create ambitious and immersive projects that utilize these resources, and strategies for lifelong immersive learning.
Workshop #4 - Telling Your Story: Project Completion and the Power of Your Discovery Narrative
What did you DO at UC Berkeley? Your answer to this question is much more important than “what did you major in?” or “how did you do in school?.” Workshop #4 will help you tell the story of your Berkeley experience by reflecting on 1) what did you learn about yourself and the world while at Berkeley and 2) how to frame these experiences to open doors for the next chapter of your life after graduation.
